Ballysax S. winner Dallas Star (Fr) (Cloth Of Stars {Ire}) and impressive Newbury maiden winner Hidden Law (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) feature among 69 entries for the G1 Derby at Epsom having been added at a cost of £12,000 at the second entry stage.
Trained by Dominic Ffrench Davis as a juvenile, Dallas Star caused a 50/1 upset when making every yard of the running to claim Group 3 honours at Leopardstown on his first start for Adrian Murray. One of 22 Irish-trained entries for the richest race in Britain, Dallas Star will be trying to become the first horse since Harzand (Ire) in 2016 to complete the Ballysax/Derby double if lining up at Epsom.
Hidden Law is one of four Derby entries for Charlie Appleby, who won the race with Masar (Ire) in 2018 and with Adayar (Ire) in 2021. He is out of the G1 Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and looked a bright prospect when getting off the mark at Newbury, quickening clear in the final furlong to win by five and a half lengths.
Ante-post market leaders City Of Troy (Justify) and Henry Longfellow (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) both stood their ground for Aidan O'Brien, but there is unlikely to be a first Japanese-trained runner in the Derby after the G1 Satsuki Sho winner Justin Milano (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}) featured among five horses who have been scratched from the race, along with Alrazeen (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}), Common Defense (Karakontie {Jpn}), Deepone (GB) (Study Of Man {Ire}) and Navy Seal (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).
The next scratchings deadline is by noon on Tuesday, May 7.
